About the Teacher : Ven. Mary Reavey

Mary Reavey, a former staff nurse, originally from Dundee (Scotland) was led by her love for adventure and trekking to Nepal in 1978 where she had an unexpected encounter with Buddhism during a visit to Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu in 1978. Her life would never be the same after attending a month-long course taught by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. She was deeply moved by their teachings, which emphasised the importance of meditation and taking complete responsibility for one's actions and their effects. Mary's journey as a Buddhist practitioner began here, and it has led her on a path of spiritual growth and service to others.

In 2001, Mary was ordained as a nun by Lama Zopa Rinpoche and has since dedicated her life to teaching meditation and Buddhist philosophy at various locations, including hospitals, hospices, and prisons. Her teachings have touched the lives of many, and her students appreciate her for her clear, structured, and humorous approach.

Ven. Mary's dedication to the path, beyond always going where she is needed, is also reflected in her personal practice, as she completed a one-year solitary retreat in 2014, and she spends each winter in solitary retreat.

Currently, she teaches at Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds, Jamyang Liverpool, and York. Her influence extends beyond the UK, and she has made a significant contribution to the FPMT center in Copenhagen, where she continuously supports her students with teachings, both online and in person.

Mary's warmth, wisdom, and compassionate approach to teaching have made her a living example of a seasoned dharma practitioner and a mentor to many. We are fortunate to have her visit Denmark once again, and her students eagerly anticipate the opportunity to learn from her teachings and her way of being.
